Okay, I obviously set this story up by posting an older “How Assisted GPS Works On Your Tilt/TyTN II” that I had done on my personal blog during the wait we all faced for the Tilt/TyTN II to be released. I had forgotten about it but thought it would be a good precursor to this story I found on Engadgetmobile.com.

A UK company, CSR has released a new technology called eGPS (Enhanced Global Positioning System) that will deliver a:

“universal positioning capability that will not only work reliably indoors and in zero GPS signal conditions, but greatly speed time to fix in poor GPS reception areas where most handsets are used.” More specifically, it can “exploit data available from the cellular network to speed GPS fixes and provide complementary, fast, and reliable location sensing when GPS signals are weak or unavailable.”

CSR is also announcing that this new technology at the Mobile World Congress and plans to make this affordable at $1.00 per unit. Other features of the CSR Chip include embedded Bluetooth and FM Radio. No other info was made available like who might have it, and when they might have it. Stay tuned and lets hope this doesn’t get swept under the carpet when the the TyTN III is released. (Oh tell me you hadn’t been thinking about it already!!!)
