02.18HTC To Release Drivers/Updates For Tilt/TyTN II in March?
If you are following the saga between disgruntled HTC Device Owners (see list of affected devices here) and HTC for neglecting to provide us with drivers that are causing very sluggish performance (Click here for detailed breakdown of the problem) then this will only add to the confusion of what HTC actually plans to do about it!
On February 14th, HTCClassAction.org, posts on his website that Peter Chou, CEO of HTC had been quoted as saying “New driver end of March”. Also, HTCClassAction.org goes on to quote:
According to Fudzilla, Dr. Florian Seiche, vice president of HTC Europe, stated “Video acceleration drivers for HTC devices will see the light of the day” during the World Mobile Congress interview in Barcelone last week.
This is very encouraging to the HTC Touch Screen community and restores some hope back in HTC. Now, Fast forward to the latest breaking news from Engadgetmobile.com! Engadgetmobile.com, has “received word” from HTC pertaining to the two HTCClassAction.org statements above that:
“…Independently, though, we’ve received word from HTC that that’s not quite true. While the company is definitely banging through some improvements in the way video is handled on some of its recent touchscreen models, it turns out that there’s technically no driver involved for the dormant Imageon circuitry; rather, the company’s crack team of engineers has discovered performance enhancements to the existing software stack that they hope to roll out in the not-too-distant future (March is the tentative plan), and if all goes well, it won’t even involve anything more painful than a .cab install.”
This does seem to be good news that there is some brighter light at the end of the tunnel for us. I’m not sure that a simple “cab” file will be the end result we were all were looking for, but any improvement at this point would be well received! We’ll keep you posted with all the latest breaking news on the Video Driver Software updates coming from HTC. Stay Tuned!
