02.26More On The HTC Video Driver Issue
Like many of you, I have been reading and following HTCClassAction.org efforts to get HTC to fix the Video Driver Issue (Click Here for a full description of the issue) surrounding the AT&T Tilt and HTC TyTN II (Among many other devices Click Here). I have written about this several times already here on TiltSite.com so I’m not going to keep re-hashing the issue, but what I wanted to do is update you on what looks to be a done deal from HTC to at least provide us a cab file in March. This again is old news, but Brighthand.com has received a further update recently from HTC that I thought I would pass along:
Some of our top engineers have investigated video performance on our devices and have discovered a fix that they claim will dramatically improve performance for common on-screen tasks like scrolling and the like. The update is in testing and we hope to release it soon.
However this fix is not a new video driver to utilize hardware acceleration; it is a software optimization. Video drivers are a much more complicated issue that involves companies and engineers beyond HTC alone. We do not want to lead anyone to believe they should expect these.
So this is good news that HTC will at least release something in March. It’s a bummer that the Video Acceleration will not be dealt with in the form of New Driver Update, but as HTCClassAction.org points out:
Hope for the future? We guess it’s clear now that HTC will do nothing worth mentioning about the current issues. However, the future XPeria product is rumored to run on the MSM7200A chipset and will have the complete driver set. If nothing else, hopefully the big brains at XDA-Developers, PPCGeeks, MoDaCo and other online communities will be able to port them to the current set of MSM7×00 devices. As it probably won’t be released before the second half of 2008 it’s still way off, though.

Or you can just buy an Xperia and reward Sony Ericsson for doing it right! I can’t wait to wash my hands of HTC and their mediocre-quality products!!!

I am wondering if this will be a ROM update. I wonder b/c if it is then I will wait for this before upgrading my ROM.
