Update Still Coming Says HTC

drivers-not-included-big What a perfect way to end a Monday but with yet another HTC announcement that they still intend to release the Video Drivers, I mean software update that we were supposed to see in the Month of March. Well now April is about to blow by us and we still have not seen or heard of any software update release dates from them that may or may not improve the performance issues caused by the missing video drivers. These video drivers would make use of the pre-installed Direc3D Acceleration that is already installed on our devices and would add various lag issues  3D gaming functionality. (There is still other drivers missing like the 2D graphics accelleration that would be made use of to solve various other issues including “lag”) But that is not what HTC plans to do, but instead release an update that could be downloaded and just installed on our device. That’s right, no flashing a new ROM, just a download and run the program.

But according to phonenews.com, HTC still plans to release the fore mentioned Software Update:

HTC media representatives have confirmed to PhoneNews.com that an update is still coming to address consumer complaints with their Qualcomm-based smartphones.

phonenews.com goes on to say the following:

HTC did not confirm any other information to PhoneNews.com, including what the update would specifically improve, or when exactly the update would be released. HTC would not confirm reports that the update would enable the Qualcomm’s built-in 2D graphics acceleration, and denied that the update would enable the built-in Direc3D acceleration that exists as well. HTC even went as far as to be unable to confirm if the update would require carrier approval, or be released as a single CAB update for the entire line of Qualcomm-based handsets.

Well let’s keep our fingers crossed that we will see the HTC software Update soon.

Just to clarify, we never said that making ” use of the pre-installed Direc3D Acceleration that is already installed on our devices and would solve various lag issues.”

In fact, that would not solve the issues at all. That would only add 3D gaming functionality which the chipset supports. Users are simply outraged that HTC didn’t write a driver for that as well.

The driver update for 2D acceleration is what would fix the issue, and that is what is still in development. The article says that a driver update would require a new ROM, and that does not appear to be the case, as the same underlying hardware exists in all Qualcomm-based HTC devices, with very little variation.

Excellent information. Everyone has seemed to lump the drivers together as a whole concerning this issue. Getting one or all of them would help at least one or some of the aspects of the Kaisers poor performance.
