As Chris mentioned this morning, this is going to be my last post on TiltSite. I have decided to Resign as “whatever my title was” and move on to another project. This is very difficult as TiltSite was something I was involved in from the get go. I put a lot of time and effort into it. To add salt to the the wound, yesterday was the biggest day in TiltSite history for visitors. So regardless, I must have been doing something right!

So where am I going? I have decided to create my own website and continue blogging, reviewing, and much much more. I am very excited about this new project and I think it will be a success. It has always been very important to me to create an atmosphere where everyone felt comfortable. No flaming, and where questions, even redundant get answered. As a Mobility Enthusiast, the greatest disservice we can do, is turn people off who are looking to enter into the world of Pocket PC Devices, most notably the AT&T Tilt and HTC TyTN II. This new website will focus not only on news, but making the difficult more understandable, and hopefully appealing to anyone who stops by. So with that, I cordially invite you to stop by the website called Tilt Mobility. We are already posting new material including a new “ROM Flashing Video” by Tyler Earman. We will continue with lots of videos and instructional content. So come on by and check us out and add us to your RSS Reader!

Thanks again to everyone!

I am here to share some news this morning…

Things are changing around here. The direction of Tiltsite is still full steam ahead on blogging about Tilt related information, but train is a tad bit lighter now. Doug and a couple of the other guys have moved on to another project. I’ll let Doug tell everyone about it in his “Goodbye” post.

I want to thank Doug for keeping this ship running smooth. He’s done a good job and his passion will be hard to replace. Since I use my Tilt on and off right now, I am out of the loop on Tilt related modifications and rom cooking and all that jazz. That said, I am going to need a couple folks that love their Tilts and want to share software reviews, news, etc with the Tiltsite readers. If you are interested, shoot me an email via our contact form. Thanks.

Good Luck in your project Doug. Full steam ahead Tiltsite.

Several TiltSite tipsters have emailed me that the ROM update on the support section has changed to the 3.57.502.2WWE. I just download the file and checked and it is NOT the new 6.1 ROM update but the older version from 1/17/08. It downloaded at 70mb and not the 88mb indicated on the HTC/US Support Page. Stay tuned, more information to come!

To look the new update CLICK HERE I tried to go through the normal support web page and the link supplied above DOES NOT appear.

It is available on the HTC/US Website

Here is some added bonuses!

Whats Included:

Windows Mobile 6.1

HTC Home

Video Share Calling

Threaded SMS

MS Voice Command

OneNote Mobile

Remote Desktop Monitor

Enroll Domain

Managed Programs

PTT Button now available
for reassignment under
Start>Settings>Buttons.

Did that say MS Voice Command? Yup! It’s in there!

Thanks to TiltSite Tipsters Brian and Gumby!

Mainly because the factory installed sounds are so lame. But, over at XDA, they have posted a way to change, or in this case add the coolest Slide Out Keyboard Sound EVER! Remember the Animated Series the Transformers that was recently made into a movie? Well now you can have the Transformer’s sound every time you open and close your Tilt/TyTN II’s keyboard!

To Download the Transformers .wav file and perform a series of registry edits to add it to the Sliding Keyboard Directory, head on over to XDA-Developers or CLICK HERE. Be sure to thank BigBHaller!

Further into the thread, there are several members who have created cab files so that you don’t have to make the registry edits as posted in BigBHaller’s post. To get just the Transformers cab file, CLICK HERE for mfrazzz post and cab file.

If you would like a collection of different Sliding Keyboard wav files all contained in a cab, CLICK HERE. This cab file contains the Transformers, Star Trek Sliding Door, Star Wars Light Saber, Window Sliding, & Zip Sliding wav files that will be installed to your device easily.

Saw this excellent Video Unboxing of the HTC Touch Pro over at Tracy and Matt(dot com.uk). Gives a great first hand look at what we might expect in the next Tilt II or TyTN III. The 5 rows of QWERTY Keyboard goodness will be well received, but Matt points out that although the keyboard is very good, the buttons are smaller. Of course the screen is VGA, but does not Tilt. I really like the look of this device. It is toned down from the Diamond F117 Stealth rear cover, but still has a lot of the same look. Matt also compares the Touch Pro to the TyTN II and the Touch Pro is smaller and thinner. Another plus for those who complained about the large size and weight of the Kaiser. I would however have liked to see HTC upsize the screen. There is a lot of real estate to easily make this device a 3-3.2 inch screen device. Enjoy the video!

So when I started looking for the themes I ran across a new Mobile Shell Beta 2 version: 2.1.2 (Build 3529). It addresses the following issues:

The list of changes:
- Option to show all day events (by default all day events are shown)
- Option to hide “free” events (by default “free” events are shown)
- Fixed compatibiblity issues with custom skins
- Fixed battery update on Treo 800w
- Fixed SMS application launch on Treo 800w
- Fixed problem a softkey navigation bug
- Reduced sensivity of the closing gesture
- Stability related fixes

I haven’t installed it yet, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up. I will be downloading it and testing it so stay tuned.

To download the new Spb Mobile Shell 2.1.2 Beta 2 (Build 3529) head over to Spb Club (dot com) or just CLICK HERE

After a long wait period, YouTube Mobile is finally here! Plus it’s made for mobile browsers that don’t have Flash support, meaning it works with the AT&T Tilt (provided you have HTC Streaming Media Installed).

Overall playback is seamless. Click on the watch video link and HTC Streaming Media automatically starts (worked from Pocket IE and Opera Mobile) and starts playing the video.

Needless to say the quality is not very good. The browsing however does allow you to login, view your favorites, add new things to your favorites, and mimic a surprising amount of functionality present in the main desktop version.

So check out YouTube Mobile at http://m.youtube.com and see what you think. Just remember you need HTC Streaming Media (or another similar program that will grab RTSP links).

If you remember back a few months I wrote an article (CLICK HERE) about the Celio Redfly which is basically an extension of your Mobile Device that clones your devices screen on a large 8″ screen (800×480), 8.3 inch 80 key QWERTY Keyboard, and Touchpad for easy interfacing with your mobile device. What I like about it is that with Browsers like Skyfire and Opera, surfing the web would be almost as good as using your laptop. But my only hang up has been the price. At $499.99 is was way over priced in my opinion for what is only at the end of the day, a “clone” laptop. What really hurts is the full Operating System Netbooks that you can get for the same or even a little less money! Just a quick search turned this up on Amazon, (CLICK HERE)

The Netbooks come with 1.6GHz processor, 120 GB hard drives, and Windows operating systems! All that for the same amount of money. Celio obviously did not count on this when they were developing the Redfly. That is why Celio has cut the price of the Redfly by $100.00 to $399.95. I still don’t think that $399.95 is low enough to catch consumers attention though.

I still am a fan of the Celio Redfly, don’t get me wrong. I would love to own one of these, but the value for the money is still not close. Let us know what you think and how much you would pay (retail) for the Redfly!
